Good morning! Hope the extra 1h sleep was helpful :)
"Just to remind all of you that we will be holding group tutorials on Monday morning from 10:10 onwards; we expect you all to attend, in your respective groups and present to us your work [installations] to date. It will be a case of reverse order of who get seen and when (times will be posted on BB later today) from last week.
Greg"
See you tomorrow!

Greg for Monday

As requested, you will need to have completed the plans/elevation drawings for the gallery space as you will need to start planning as well as negating the space for your installation/intervention. After the lecture at 10, we will be discussing with you in your groups how your approaches (you will need to evidence how each member of the team is contributing to the outcome) are working and coming along. As well as presenting to me what you have done Valerie will be discussing how you could use digital medium to enhance or play a role in your designs.
I hope that you have completed the set task from last week as we really need to see what you have done and where you are at. Remember by not turning up on Monday doesn't mean that we forget and the issues 'fades away' you still will need to submit at the end what we have set out in the brief!
Enjoy the sunshine! Greg

Hi!
Greg put the artefacts on blackboard, I am putting them here as well just in case,
however I don't know for what reason they are mixed with the other courses artefacts, and as it seems not all of us are getting the ones we hoped for.

Given objects:
Please note that you must not change your artefact, the one given, is the one you and your group must work on. You will need to select for your group, one person to visit the Cumin on Friday 12-13:00 to view the object. As you have been given your artefact at random, your artefact may not be available so, you will therefore need to work on the object as if you had it still. The key at this stage is your ability to thoroughly and forensically examine the artefact: BA Year 2: CID 1 Project groups.

Lynda.com

Wed, Oct 12, 2011 -- Lynda.com - a new campus-wide service
I am very pleased to let you know that the university has taken out a one-year campus licence to lynda.com.  This will provide unlimited access to the lynda.com Online Training Library ® for all UAL staff and students both on and off-site.

Lynda.com provides 24-hour access to video courses focused on software topics and business skills training.  This resource includes:

  • Access to over 1,000 courses, with 4-6 new courses added every week
  • An option to view courses in their entirety or as individual videos to support knowledge development and just-in-time learning
  • Printable course certificates to confirm completion of courses you have viewed and studied
When you visit the lynda.com site for the first time you will need to register to create a personal profile.  This will mean that you can track your learning and see a record of the videos you have used.  A guide to registering and setting up your profile so that you can use Lynda.com is available on the library section of your Blackboard course site.

This service is now available for you to use from anywhere on or off-campus.  Once you have used the registration instructions to set up your personal profile, you can log in to use Lynda.com at http://lynda.arts.ac.uk

A ‘How to use lynda.com’ training video is available on the site as well as the options to select videos by software, company and author.  A sample of the types of courses available can be found on youtube.com.

ATTENTION EVERYONE!!!

(Lucy, I'm posting this here, but as an experiment. Repost it as it is on the Facebook group so that everyone can understand what they need to do and maybe you need to send them the invitations like you did to me. Okay?)
Hello, dear fellow bloggers, designers, friends and other cute-like-namers ;)

As decided, we now run the lovely friendly pink blog as a community thing and I would really appreciate it if under Contributors we see more names and less gaps(:

As Lucy and I carried out this 'experiment', it seems to me that we need to send you the special invitation:
"You have been invited to contribute to LCC - BA Interior Design".
When you receive this e-mail, you'll probably need to create a Google account to manage to log on to the blog itself. Just follow the link in the e-mail that you'd receive and the rest would be a piece of cake.

After all this is done, I hope we can get down to the serious Year 2 stuff!!!
Hopefully, meet you sooner in the blog than expected:)

New brief is online! all essential readings are taken already :D

"Project Brief:
By now you will have selected and investigated 4 artefacts within your design group, now as a class, these need to be ‘reduced down’ to four overall; your group will be allocated one of these four artefacts to focus upon.

The objective from the start of this project is not to get you all to merely construct a space with four walls and a ceiling but to tackle the object by removing your 3D Spatial ‘hat’ and look at the project with a conceptual and open mind as to where the outcome could take you.  Please do not fear doing something which may include sound, light projections or use of interactive medium.

You will need to consider sound, movement and the notion that your work could take on a 4th dimensional approach that would involve the use of chronological or time bound constraints such as corrosion, sunlight or movement. You may wish to consider sound as a 3D object, capturing it as an emotional space for example.

Reflect upon how we see or become familiar an everyday object and what values we place upon it (now and in its original context)?
For example, at antique toy fares, collectors pay the highest prices for pristine models in their original boxes.  Yet such perfect items often only inform us of manufacturing details and the most sterile existence. If however, we remove the financial element of the value of an object, what physical state it’s in will inform us of the years of love, misuse and purpose of its existence. So how abstract and conceptual will any of you dare to be? You should also consider the possibility of working alongside others who are not from a 3D design practice and could, (should) ‘initiate’ a dialogue with others who may be working on a similar object and therefore can share knowledge and exchange skills."
