"Desperate times has meant that I have broken even my strict rules and send out his via your personal e-mails.
Despite my pleas last week for those who are not away to come in and discuss their respective installations with Nicky, Gregor or me, I have only heard from a few of you (and most were away out of town!!
I don't think that some of you understand, if you don't come in do the work [on your objects] in time, there will be no show!!!!!!
I am in tomorrow morning, if you need to discuss issues surrounding the work you need to produce, materials or construction worries. If you have not the means to purchase your materials, just by ignoring my communications (e-mails) doesn’t mean the problem simply ‘vaporises’ and disappear.
If you cannot make tomorrow, Nicky will be in the remainder of the week otherwise, you will need to come in on the 3rd January first thing in the morn (10am) if you still wish to participate in the show (by not completing the show could result in you not passing the unit.
If you insist on not coming in and participating this week, you will have from the 3rd until the end of the day on the 10th Jan to complete and install your pieces (inc ‘ironing out any problems) good luck!

Yonny, please send this onto those who (Yanin, Stephanie and Maria) are on this list.

Regards Greg

NICKY RYAN REQUEST MAIL

Dear all,

As the Artefacts & Affects show approaches there are key deadlines which need to be met in order to ensure that we meet our obligations to our partners Cuming Museum/Southwark Council (guardians of the Southwark Art Collection) and have a fantastic exhibition and event/s delivered on time and to budget!

I have outlined some urgent action points below as well as attaching a timeline with key deadlines and draft list of locations for proposed artefacts and installations.

ACTION POINTS FOR DEADLINE MONDAY 28th NOVEMBER:

1. Students to provide the following on Monday to Nicky Ryan via the curation team:

· A scale model of proposed installation 1:50 (or at very least clear dimensions)

· A detailed breakdown of estimated costs (keep them as low as possible)

· List of equipment required – ie. Speakers/laptops/projectors (please identify whether these are available from existing dedicated course equipment or need to be requested on loan from LCC central resources).

· Each group to provide title, names of participants and 50 words describing your project (i.e. what is the concept behind your response to the selected art work) AND one amazing sketch/illustration - minimum res 300 DPI (from the process of project development).

2. CAN YOU ALL COME UP WITH SOME IDEAS FOR A COMMUNITY EVENT ON SATURDAY 14th JAN (ie. guided tours round exhibition/family activities/workshops in relation to show, etc.)

Curation team can you please forward this info onto rest of class as a matter of urgency please.
Thanks so much for all your help and have a great weekend.
Best,
Nicky

Just to remind you that you will all be presenting (as on schedule) your Cumin entrance designs in the morning. I will post a 'running order' on Thursday morning up in W301. Bring in all of your work related to the the Detail Design unit, whatever state in whatever state of completion. You will be receiving oral feedback from me and I hope from others in the class. Each of you will need to discuss your work for a maximum of 5 mins with 5 mins of feedback, perhaps less but no more.

Dean Forum

Hello all!
Just wanted to let you know what happened at the Dean Forum this Wednesday, for those who are interested.
1). Material Fees - basically most courses what to see where their material fees are going, so the dean promised that he will act and try to make it "transparent" to us, by making some kind of a break down.
2). Toilets - there were some people who asked for hooks and for locks, so the dean said that at the moment refurbishments are going on. He will check when they will be finished, and why haven't they been done over the summer.
3). Library - there was a complain that the temperatures are too high. He will see what he can do about that. We asked him to make sure that Vectorworks is installed ASAP. And the dean said that EVERYONE should look after their stuff (laptops especially) because there are a lot of thief.
4). Woodshop - we asked him why is it closed all of the time - weekends and late afternoons. Of course that is because there is not enough stuff, but we also mentioned that it is now going to be closed for maintainance on Friday from 10-2pm, so he said he is going to try and change that.
5). Signs - there were 1st year students that were asking for signs and map. The dean said that is really hard and expensive procedure, but the reps suggested that maybe the Graphic Design can carry out a project to solve this complication.
6). Canteen - complaint that the prices are too high and that they are going up. However, he does not have any power there. We asked for more microwaves though, and we were told we are getting more over the year.

I hope you will have a great weekend!
Sorry I did not upgrade you earlier.

Few Announcements by Greg

Good to see most of you have begun to work collaboratively with other groups and individuals from other courses, utilising their specialist skills and know, good. For next Monday, we would like you to present to us a brief presentation of what you are doing, so far to date by showing us a selection of your work. Each group will need to present, digitally, 10 slides (PPT) each slide can only be shown for a maximum of 20 seconds, so its rapid fire narration guys! In the morning we will be speaking and offering further advice via group tutorials, (see timetable posted over weekend) and written feedback.

Next Tuesday, I would like you to attend a round table presentation by the year 1's of their design projects. Each one of you will be allocated a group who will present to you their work, which you will be asked (expected to) to offer cronstructive feedback. I will detail more on Monday including times and location. I realise that some of you may have VCT but I will 'square it' with Nicky.

Please check in Course Information for your times both in the morning and the afternoon sessions.
Enjoy your weekend,

Greg

"Just to remind all of you that we will be holding group tutorials on Monday morning from 10:10 onwards; we expect you all to attend, in your respective groups and present to us your work [installations] to date. See you tomorrow!

Thusrdayyyyyyyyy

Greg

Sunday 23 October 2011

Greg for Monday

As requested, you will need to have completed the plans/elevation drawings for the gallery space as you will need to start planning as well as negating the space for your installation/intervention. After the lecture at 10, we will be discussing with you in your groups how your approaches (you will need to evidence how each member of the team is contributing to the outcome) are working and coming along. As well as presenting to me what you have done Valerie will be discussing how you could use digital medium to enhance or play a role in your designs.
I hope that you have completed the set task from last week as we really need to see what you have done and where you are at. Remember by not turning up on Monday doesn't mean that we forget and the issues 'fades away' you still will need to submit at the end what we have set out in the brief!
Enjoy the sunshine! Greg

Hi!
Greg put the artefacts on blackboard, I am putting them here as well just in case,
however I don't know for what reason they are mixed with the other courses artefacts, and as it seems not all of us are getting the ones we hoped for.

Given objects:
Please note that you must not change your artefact, the one given, is the one you and your group must work on. You will need to select for your group, one person to visit the Cumin on Friday 12-13:00 to view the object. As you have been given your artefact at random, your artefact may not be available so, you will therefore need to work on the object as if you had it still. The key at this stage is your ability to thoroughly and forensically examine the artefact: BA Year 2: CID 1 Project groups.
